Andrew Harrison

Hi, my name’s Andy and I’m the Head Honcho at Discovering Days-school playground equipment specialists!

Over my working life, I’ve had a long and varied career; having started life as a civil engineer, I have also worked in computers (some of the first, way back in the mists of time!) and for the local authority, as well as for a few companies in the private sector, before setting up in my present industry around the early noughties.

I first set up Swings and Roundabouts around 2005 and then, last year, Discovering Days was born, and I genuinely now feel that I’m in the right place for me. I love being creative and working with my hands, I love building something that you know is going to give children a great sense of fun and achievement, and most importantly, I like knowing we’re doing a good job well.

Having now built up a business that is thriving, it makes me proud to see what we’ve built over the years through hard graft and determination, and I know we can keep this going for years to come and keep on building on it.

I’m not all about work though. When I do occasionally leave the workshop, my great passion – like Dave – is music.

Since the age of 14 I have played the guitar and have even been in various punk bands, and so live music is still very much part of my life. I love going to watch bands with my family and friends, the smaller the venue the better! In particular, my favourite bands are The Damned, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Peter Hook etc. etc. Basically, I’ll listen to anything though…and don’t get me started on music when we’re on site or you’ll never shut me up!

Another passion of mine is cars and driving. Back in the day (OK, the 90s) I used to do a spot of rally driving and absolutely loved it, and I’m still a keen car fanatic to this day. Or at least, I love watching cars; unfortunately my love of driving has diminished somewhat due to all the idiots on the roads these days. (It’s absolutely the fact that every other driver is an idiot, and absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I’m getting older and grumpier!)

All in all though, I’m never happier than when I’m beavering away in the workshop, or working outside fitting equipment in the fresh air. Except when it’s raining, of course.

If you’d like to get in touch with me – whether to talk about music, rally driving or sand pits – then please feel free to drop me an email at sales@discoveringdays.co.uk.
